PRIME – Problem of recognition in making Erasmus

Students in Europe enjoy great opportunities of mobility through exchange programs such as the Erasmus Programme. However, they still have to face various barriers and obstacles, among these recognition is continuous problem. For this reason, ESN is conducting an in-depth qualitative research to point out the true causes of the above mentioned obstacles and to provide suggestions for improvements. It is supported by the European Commission under an Erasmus Accompanying Measures grant within the Lifelong Learning Programme. The first research was launched in 2009 and concluded in January 2010, the second edition will be carried out in 2011. 

PRIME 2009 research identified five main obstacles for full recognition:

• Individual problems of students (such as unfinished courses or unsatisfactory grades);
• incompatibility of study programmes;
• problems with calculation of course credits,
• organisational issues and problems to recognize certain courses - especially language courses or mandatory courses at home institution.
